As marketers, we (and our clients) rely on Google for many reasons such as tracking website traffic and evaluating analytics and creating & monitoring successful ad campaigns. We can’t accomplish any of the above without first establishing a business account, and lately it has been a real challenge. Let’s face it – Google’s got a tummy ache, or something like that.
Support.Google.com is a great place to start, but as a precautionary health measure, Google is stating that due to COVID-19 they too, (understandably) are operating with a limited team. So, if you try calling, you most likely won’t talk to a live person. Trying to establish a new business account? Receiving a verification code postcard is delayed a bit whereas normally it’s a 3 to 5-day process. Now Google is stating it’s taking 1-2 weeks although our agency has experienced much longer wait times as slow as 4-6 weeks. Once you finally do get that verification code and get your business placed on the map, (congratulations!) most want to initiate a successful reviews campaign. That’s a wonderful idea! Except that Google turned off the ability to get new reviews for all businesses on March 20th. Google is stating that on April 9th they turned on the ability to get new reviews, but it is not fully rolled out for all businesses. Google has advised that they do plan on publishing reviews left after March 20th, but there is no ETA on when this will happen.
Frustrated? So are we! We don’t have any control over the matter; we can keep a close eye on it and work diligently on other things. Fortunately, Analytics.Google.com and Ads.Google.com seem to be functioning although we do have some questions about accurate reporting.
Google! Get well soon!
